With the help of an EpicPromise grant, local nonprofit EATS PARK CITY is teaching Park City youth about healthy eating. Check out what they have been up to with the help of the resort's Food & Beverage team.
“Look what I made?!” The proud exclamation of a child that creates a masterpiece and shares it with parents, teachers and peers. If that creation also improves learning, behavioral skills, and overall well-being, what could be better? That’s what EATS cooking classes do in an after-school program at Parley’s Park Elementary School. Last month, USSA chef Alan Tran joined EATS to make Stir-Fried Pea Shoots, teaching the students how to cut, grate, measure and sauté while making a dish they were proud to eat and share.
EATS PARK CITY began teaching kids to cook in 2013 and has since then seen changes in kids’ attitudes toward healthier foods. One parent shared that her third grader’s new favorite snack is hummus. "He tasted it during an EATS Taste Test at school then made it in cooking classes" with Park City's Executive Chef, Scott Lewis. Three cheers to that!
