In May 2012, Park City received a grant from the National Ski Areas Association’s Sustainable Slopes Program to advance our programs addressing climate change. Specifically, we used the grant to install solar panels on the Tombstone Ski Patrol hut. Each year, these solar panels save approximately 2,200 kilowatts of electricity – the equivalent of 1.5 tons of carbon.
To further this effort, in 2013, the NSAA awarded us an additional grant to complete an energy audit by a third-party. The findings from this audit have helped us identify areas of opportunity for energy reduction in the future including installing energy efficient snowmaking guns and automated heater controls to reduce heat loss.
