Over 80 Volunteers, 8 days, 4 homes.

In its first Blitz Build for Vail Habitat for Humanity, over 80 volunteers worked together to construct 4 homes throughout the course of 8 days in Gypsum, Colorado. The week of July 23-July 31, 2015 was spent with volunteers from all across the country, including many Vail Resorts employees. The Vail and Beaver Creek Group Sales Team donated over 96 hours of volunteer work throughout the project!

Among the Vail Resorts volunteers was Kristen Williams, the VP of Mountain Community Affairs. When asked about her involvement with the project, Williams stated, “Home ownership is so important and Habitat for Humanity makes such a big difference for so many families and so many kids. Vail Resorts loves to support this program. [Plus] there is nothing like giving a girl a hammer.”

Each year, one Habitat affiliate is chosen to host a Blitz Build. Many factors are taken into account when the affiliate is chosen, specifically four criteria: to publicize the need for low-cost housing, to help the local affiliate grow, to stimulate the local affiliate’s donor base and to have fun.

The houses built during Blitz Build will be sold to families that demonstrate a need for improved housing. These families will then be able to contribute volunteer hours by working on their homes and residences of other Habitat families.
